Today I started to work on the back of the digipak. I used the picture that I took myself of the tunnels for it.

I started by desaturating the image so that it had hardly any colour on it, so I was almost starting from scratch with the colouring to make it match the music video the best as possible.

I then changed the brightness and contrast of the image so that I could make it less bright and with more shadows in the dark parts of the picture, to give it the same mood as the music video. I gave it a high contrast, highlighting the shadows in the picture, which is the look I was going for.

After doing this I experimented with the hue and saturation. I didn't really need to desaturate it any more as I already had done it, so I only slightly did more. I put the hue up a little bit to make the picture slightly more greeny, as it already had the brown tinge.

  

I then edited the colour balance of the image, so that it would exactly match the colouring in our music video. The bricks in the picture originally had a reddy tinge so I needed to get rid of this as best as I possibly could. I added a little bit of green to the image and also yellow to achieve the greeny/browny colour which I did.

I then felt the image was ready to have the text put on to it, which is the name of each of the songs going on the album. I created a new layer for each bit of text so I could move the all around separately, and I named them with each of the song titles making it easier for me to know where to place them.

 I started by using the 'Skew' tool to tilt and move each of the titles, and I scattered them over the area of the bricks, however all of them didn't fit, and I didn't really want to make them any smaller as they would be quite hard to read.

Instead I decided to place them in lines on the bricks, which I think looked better. I also put the words in order of the shortest at the bottom to the longest at the top so that they all fit

in nicely.

Today I started to play around on Photoshop with images which could possibly be used for either the front or the back of our digipak. I used a picture of a brick wall to start with, however is too simple, and doesn't say anything about the band or the character within the narrative. Therefore we may use a brick background behind 'The Reservoirs' for the website banner or logo.

Instead, I took this picture of tunnels, and cropped it to achieve the rounded curved shape above them leading into the brick wall. I would like to use this picture for the back of the digipak, and list the tracks within the bricks. However I would like to change the colouring so that it matches the music video.

Today I researched some fonts that we may possibly use for our digipak and website.

This is my favourite font out of all of these as if is the most interesting and the 'S' curls down underneath the word.

These fonts are all quite basic, and I do not think they suit the band as much.

Digipak Drafts

These are my first ideas for our digipak. Both of these designs will have the band featured on the front, however we are more keen to have a photograph for the front of the album which tells a story about the band, and they can be seen inside the album.

I like the idea of both of these fonts for the main font used throughout our digipak and website. The first one is more simple which represents the band more than a fancy font as the band are laidback lads.

Today the music video was finished and we decided the ask our peers for some feedback on the Final Cut and what they thought and if there was any finishing touches which could be made to make it the best it could possibly be. 

The only thing that could be changed was having the blue colour correction over the extreme close up shots of the main singer with his microphone, and each individual band member moving down the 'hallway/corridor'. 

So instead we have put the browny/green colour correction over these shots as the blue looked too over the top and the browny colour blends in a lot better with the rest of the video. So now the majority of the shots have the same colour correction, however the performance shots with the shadows in them (the balcony shots and the shot with the white wall behind it) have been left with the blue tint as it makes them stand out more against the others.

This shows the extreme close up shot of the main singer which did have blue over it but now has the browny/green. Also I have made it look like the end close up shots similar to this one, with quite a dark contrast, so that they match and look alike.

This image shows how I had to change the 'blacks' setting whilst colour correcting these performances shots. It was mainly the ones coming down the hallway which were too dark, therefore needed lightening up a slight amount by this setting.

These are some screen captures of the hallway shots of each individual band member, which were originally too dark and all need the blacks setting adjusted so there was still a slight amount of contrast there with the browny/greeny look however have been made a lighter.

Our music video is now ready to be exported and uploaded to Youtube!

Today I went through each shot in the video and made sure that the colour correction was correct and visible in the shot. Some of them were still too blue or not blue enough, and the some of the narrative shots didn't look like they had any colour correction over the top of them.

In the outside beginning narrative shots we have put a browny/green colour over the top so it matches the wall and the ground and also the surroundings, I made sure that it was not too coloured but the colour correction is still noticeable.

In the performance shots where the band are on the balcony and in front of the white wall we have decided to keep with a blue colour correction, however have toned it down a bit so it is not too blue and so the shadows on the wall and ceiling stand out. We have kept it with this colour correction because there are no boxes in the background to distract the audience.

These outside shots with reddy/brown fence and wall have been colour corrected with the browny/green tint as well as the beginning narrative shots so that the colour theme/visual style is very similar throughout.

These are the shots where the background is very distracting and now have the same browny/green colour correction over them, which looks a lot better than having the blue because it blends in more with the narrative and isn't too different.

These shots where each individual band member is walking down the 'hallway' we have also left with a little bit of blue colour correction. I made sure that they were not too blue.

These shots at the end of the narrative were still too reddy/browny therefore I put more of a browny/green colour correction over them so that the match the rest of the outside shots.

Today was the first day back to school after the Christmas break. I cracked straight onto the editing after taking into account every piece of feedback I could gather. First of all we received some feedback from other students in the class and they said that we should change the 'blue' tinted colour correction as it does not represent what we originally wanted the visual style to be like. Also we were told that the performance shots with the boxes behind the band should be a more browny/green colour to match the narrative, and also to take away the fact that the background is very distracting, so I tried this out and the result was better.

Also I tried the effect 'Light Rays' over the top of these shots as it gave a slight blur around the edges of the main focus point in the shot (the main singer or band) however I will need to receive some opinions on whether my peers think this is effective.

Here you can see that I have taken in to account what people fed back about the series of shots at the end of video, which was that there are too many and that they are too quick. So I have taken some out and dragged the ones left out a little bit so they are not to quick ad so that they make sense. I have also put a couple of performance shots in to break up some of the narrative shots.

Today I have imported the performance edit without any narrative in it, so I can incorporate more performance shots in to the video. I have gone through the whole video and where I thought that more performance could fit in I have put it in as we received some feedback that the audience would like to see more shots of the band. I have put in a sufficient amount without ruining the narrative.

You can see here that I have cut a part of the performance in between these 2 shots, as I decided that the second zoom in to the thief didn't look professional enough so I replaced it with a shot of one of the guitar players as he looks like he is really into the music, which makes it more believable. I have done this to a few other parts of the video so there is more evidence of the band playing.
